New Brunswick Moose hunting recap September 2014

Yesterday the province of New Brunswick released numbers regarding the the 2014 Moose hunting season. As expected ,with the new 5 day season kill numbers were up province-wide (but not quite as much as biologists predicted). 2014 saw a total harvest of 3690 Moose which was a 10% increase over the 2013 season total. Projections had put the final 2014 kill at 3940 (which would have been about a 16% increase) due to the extra 2 days of hunting this year, however the last 2 days of moose season were unseasonably warm with temperatures topping 26 C (about 80 F) in some parts of New Brunswick which likely had a negative impact on hunting during those 2 days.

There were 4612 resident licences issued for 2014 along with 100 non-resident licences making the total 4712, with 3690 Moose taken for an overall success rate of 78%. The New Brunswick DNR estimates the moose population province wide to be about 30 000 animals.

Here at Long Lake Adventures we had a 100% success rate with our non-resident hunter Jimmy bagging a fine bull the first morning and we  also had 3 residents with licenses using our facilities as their base and each of them had Moose by Friday.

New Brunswick Moose Hunting Report- September 23, 2014 Long Lake Adventures

Less than 3 hours into the “new” 5 day 2014 New Brunswick Moose hunting season oMoose hunting in New Brunswick 2014 Long Lake Adventuresur non-resident guest (and long-time Long Lake Adventures bear hunter) Jimmy filled his tag taking a fine 14 point New Brunswick bull after passing up on a smaller (10 point) bull earlier this morning. Clay called him out to an old forest road where Jimmy promptly dispatched him with a 375 H & H Magnum. Our well-experienced Moose hunting guide team of Clay and Andy once again showed how Long Lake Adventures offers an unmatched outdoor experience in the most remote areas of New Brunswick. We’ll post more photos as soon as they are available but for now here’s a pic of our happy hunter with his handsome bull. Congratulations to Jimmy and thank you for creating another memory here at Long Lake Adventures!

Final fishing recap-news from summer season at Long Lake Adventures.

Overall we had a great summer in 2014 of fishing here at Long Lake Adventures once again. Fishing continued to be very good through July and August with mostly warm, dry weather and favourable conditions for both fish and fisherman. Labour day weekend saw some unsettled weather and fishing was slow for a few days but picked back up with great action for our last few groups of fishermen in early September. Lake trout season closed on September 15 and we’re already looking forward to the 2015 season. We’d like to thank all of our fishing guests for their patronage and look forward to seeing you next summer- we’re already booking for 2015 so we suggest you contact us ASAP to make your booking and get the best choice of dates (weekends fill up fast!)

We also had several folks take advantage of our family vacation packages with great feedback as well as having a great time with the ATV groups that visited us this summer-we hope to see you all again next year and would like to express our appreciation for choosing Long Lake Adventures for your excursions! We’ll be adding a page dedicated to ATV trips to the website in the near future, so keep an eye out for that; right now the New Brunswick Moose season is in full swing so our attention for the next few days will be with that. Hunting news will be posted here as well on our facebook page.

Thanks again for a great summer!/Merci encore pour un bel été!

Clay and Tanya, and everyone at Long Lake Adventures

Long Lake New Brunswick Fishing Report July 7, 2014

Sorry for the delay in updates but things have been rather busy here at Long Lake. After winding up our spring bear season, we jumped right into some spectacular New Brunswick Lake Trout fishing. Vertical jigging and deep water trolling proved to be “New Brunswick's best Lake Trout fishingthe ticket” recently as water temperatures warmed up in mid-June. In one 7 day period near the end of June we boated Lakers with the smallest weighing in at 5 ½ pounds and the largest tipping the scales at 19 ½ pounds. Of the 33 boated ONLY 4 left the lake! Hook and release at it’s finest! In addition to the LFat Laker June 2014akers, we have found the shoreline to be productive for Landlocked Salmon.

On June 25th we hosted our first ever” Guided ATV excursion” 14 couples plus Tanya & I enjoyed 2 days exploring Acadian Timber’s New Brunswick at trip Long Lake Adventurespicturesque property, eating fine food and sharing great company!! An AWESOME trip!

On July 5th we  wrapped up another great experience….We have been shooting an episode of Fishing With Friends with host Steve Clapperton and Danny Harvie on camera. Lots of fish were caught and released, stories shared and laughs were unlimited. Thanks a lot guys for including us in next season! “Right On!”. This show airs on Eastlink cable in Nova Scotia and PEI – we will posting a copy to our Youtube channel after the show broadcasts for all our friends here in New Brunswick and elsewhere.

NB Bear 2014

NB Bear 2014

We ended the last week of our New Brunswick spring bear hunting season a couple of weeks ago capping off a great spring 2014!
Our guests here at Long Lake Adventures took several large black bears this spring upwards of 300 pounds with a bear about twice that size taken by a member of the last group of hunters we had in camp.

We left our trail cameras out on some of our bait sites after the last group all got their bears and still had several bears visiting the baits. We’ll be updating our hunting gallery within the next few days with pics of all of our lucky spring bear hunters. For more info on both spring and fall bear hunting be sure to visit our New Brunswick bear hunting page.

2 fine lakers from last weekend

Last week was a busy week for us with bear hunters and most of our camps were occupied by hunters and their family and friends. The fishing groups we had experienced good fishing early in the week however a cold front passed over northern New Brunswick that was followed by a couple of days of unsettled weather mid-week and this seemed to slow the bite down.

Nice Landlocked Salmon from Long Lake

Fishing started to pick up again Thursday evening into Friday on Long Lake and over the weekend our guests caught some large fish. The weather forecast for the coming few days sounds favourable and we expect good fishing to continue throughout the week.

Mud Lake is producing lots of fiesty landlocked salmon now for our catch and release only anglers.

We had another great week of fishing here at Long Lake Adventures-water conditions are now prime and warmer weather is making for more pleasant conditions on the water. The last few days saw very little in the way of rain after the cool ,windy conditions we had during  early part of last week. Topwater action continues to be good and our fishing guests that were here over the weekend hooked into several 10 pound plus Lake Trout. Landlocked Salmon fishing also continues to be very good.

Weather for the rest of the week is forecast to be darker with some rain but overall conditions should be good ! A few openings still exist so contact us for your chance at getting in on New Brunswick’s finest Lake fishing.

New Brunswick Spring Bear Hunting report, May 27,2014 Long Lake Adventures

Black Bear hunting in New Brunswick spring 2014 Long Lake Adventures

These 3 bears were taken the first day (May 26 ) of our spring bear hunt 2014

We kicked off our New Brunswick spring bear hunting season for 2014 here at Long Lake Adventures yesterday evening, May 26 and we started off with a bang- literally! Three of of hunters took fine black bears. After an unusually long winter here in northern New Brunswick (there’s still a bit of snow in some places) the bears have been out and about with lots of activity around bait sites. Weather remains on the cool side but on the bright side the black flies and mosquitoes haven’t come to life yet in much in the way of numbers; of course we expect that to change within the next few days. The weather forecast for the rest of the week shows temperatures warming up with only light winds and very little rain so this should make for pretty good hunting conditions for both the hunters and the bears for the balance of the week.
