A Memorial Day to remember!
Long Lake Adventures Spring Bear Hunt 2015
We started our 2015 New Brunswick Spring Black Bear season here at Long Lake Adventures with our first four hunters of the year taking fine Bears the first evening of our spring hunt! ( on four shots total no less! ) Spring arrived late again this year due to heavy winter snowfall but the bears are out and about now with hits on most of our baits already. The elevation (and extended winter) in our area means our bait locations aren’t accessible until mid-May but we work diligently to prepare and monitor our bait locations on a daily basis to insure we have several active baits working when our first group of hunters arrive. For more information on spring black bear hunting in New Brunswick visit our bear hunting page. Congratulations again to Jason, Ryan, Bucky and Joe!

Yesterday the province of New Brunswick released numbers regarding the the 2014 Moose hunting season. As expected ,with the new 5 day season kill numbers were up province-wide (but not quite as much as biologists predicted). 2014 saw a total harvest of 3690 Moose which was a 10% increase over the 2013 season total. Projections had put the final 2014 kill at 3940 (which would have been about a 16% increase) due to the extra 2 days of hunting this year, however the last 2 days of moose season were unseasonably warm with temperatures topping 26 C (about 80 F) in some parts of New Brunswick which likely had a negative impact on hunting during those 2 days.
There were 4612 resident licences issued for 2014 along with 100 non-resident licences making the total 4712, with 3690 Moose taken for an overall success rate of 78%. The New Brunswick DNR estimates the moose population province wide to be about 30 000 animals.
Here at Long Lake Adventures we had a 100% success rate with our non-resident hunter Jimmy bagging a fine bull the first morning and we also had 3 residents with licenses using our facilities as their base and each of them had Moose by Friday.
Less than 3 hours into the “new” 5 day 2014 New Brunswick Moose hunting season our non-resident guest (and long-time Long Lake Adventures bear hunter) Jimmy filled his tag taking a fine 14 point New Brunswick bull after passing up on a smaller (10 point) bull earlier this morning. Clay called him out to an old forest road where Jimmy promptly dispatched him with a 375 H & H Magnum. Our well-experienced Moose hunting guide team of Clay and Andy once again showed how Long Lake Adventures offers an unmatched outdoor experience in the most remote areas of New Brunswick. We’ll post more photos as soon as they are available but for now here’s a pic of our happy hunter with his handsome bull. Congratulations to Jimmy and thank you for creating another memory here at Long Lake Adventures!
Overall we had a great summer in 2014 of fishing here at Long Lake Adventures once again. Fishing continued to be very good through July and August with mostly warm, dry weather and favourable conditions for both fish and fisherman. Labour day weekend saw some unsettled weather and fishing was slow for a few days but picked back up with great action for our last few groups of fishermen in early September. Lake trout season closed on September 15 and we’re already looking forward to the 2015 season. We’d like to thank all of our fishing guests for their patronage and look forward to seeing you next summer- we’re already booking for 2015 so we suggest you contact us ASAP to make your booking and get the best choice of dates (weekends fill up fast!)
We also had several folks take advantage of our family vacation packages with great feedback as well as having a great time with the ATV groups that visited us this summer-we hope to see you all again next year and would like to express our appreciation for choosing Long Lake Adventures for your excursions! We’ll be adding a page dedicated to ATV trips to the website in the near future, so keep an eye out for that; right now the New Brunswick Moose season is in full swing so our attention for the next few days will be with that. Hunting news will be posted here as well on our facebook page.
Thanks again for a great summer!/Merci encore pour un bel été!
Clay and Tanya, and everyone at Long Lake Adventures
Monster New Brunswick Black Bear June 2014.
NB Bear 2014
We ended the last week of our New Brunswick spring bear hunting season a couple of weeks ago capping off a great spring 2014!
Our guests here at Long Lake Adventures took several large black bears this spring upwards of 300 pounds with a bear about twice that size taken by a member of the last group of hunters we had in camp.
We left our trail cameras out on some of our bait sites after the last group all got their bears and still had several bears visiting the baits. We’ll be updating our hunting gallery within the next few days with pics of all of our lucky spring bear hunters. For more info on both spring and fall bear hunting be sure to visit our New Brunswick bear hunting page.
These 3 bears were taken the first day (May 26 ) of our spring bear hunt 2014
We kicked off our New Brunswick spring bear hunting season for 2014 here at Long Lake Adventures yesterday evening, May 26 and we started off with a bang- literally! Three of of hunters took fine black bears. After an unusually long winter here in northern New Brunswick (there’s still a bit of snow in some places) the bears have been out and about with lots of activity around bait sites. Weather remains on the cool side but on the bright side the black flies and mosquitoes haven’t come to life yet in much in the way of numbers; of course we expect that to change within the next few days. The weather forecast for the rest of the week shows temperatures warming up with only light winds and very little rain so this should make for pretty good hunting conditions for both the hunters and the bears for the balance of the week.
Nice New Brunswick Lake Trout-May 15,2014
13+ pound Lake Trout May 18 ,2014
Fishing season started 4 days ago and our guests have hooked into several fine Togue ( Lake Trout). Landlocked Salmon fishing has also been exceptionally good. The “bite” is really just starting now due in part to the ice only completely leaving the lake a couple of days before the season started. The lure of choice for most of our guests have been various Rapala patterns trolled topwater -we still have a few dates available this spring and with the later-than-normal ice out we expect the water will stay cool well into the latter part of June. Call us at 506-356-5151 or contact us by clicking here to get in on New Brunswick’s finest lake fishing for trout and salmon!
Yesterday May 8, 2014, the New Brunswick government announced that it appears very likely the 2014 New Brunswick Moose hunting season will be extended to five days from the current three. The extra two days will be tacked on in front of the current three days in the last week of September making it a Tuesday to Saturday hunt versus the current Thursday-Saturday hunt. These changes won’t officially come into effect until (some point after) June 5 as there will be a consultation period with stakeholders but it seems at this point this will be the season for 2014!
Update July 9 2014- Yesterday the New Brunswick government announced the changes are indeed official and it is a 5 day hunt-Good luck to all who had their names drawn!
We had another successful visit to Moncton this past weekend- thanks again to those of you who stopped by to meet us. Now we’re waiting for the snow and ice to melt to get our camps ready for the spring fishing season. The countdown is also on for any of you non-resident hunters thinking of applying for the New Brunswick 2014 Moose hunting draw; April 30th is the deadline so be sure to get those applications in so you can join us here at Long Lake Adventures for a trip of a lifetime!
