Winter/Spring Show Schedule 2016, Long Lake Adventures and New Brunswick Moose Season Info

Atlantic Sports and RV Show and Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum

We’re counting the days here until we attend a couple of our favourite shows, The first one being the Atlantic Outdoor Sports and RV Show in Halifax, Nova Scotia from March 11 to 13, 2016 at the Halifax Exhibition Centre. The next event will be the Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum in partnership with the New Brunswick Sportsman Show at the Moncton Coliseum. This event runs from April 1 to April 3, 2016. If you’re in either region you can drop by and we’ll give you the low-down on all the great opportunities here at Long Lake Adventures, including our new for 2016 fully-guided 3 day/2 night fishing trips. You only need to bring yourself; we look after the rest-this package includes food (3 meals/day) and fishing gear (if you require it) This offers a great opportunity for those who’ve never fished Lake Trout and Landlocked Salmon on a larger body of water as your guide can show you the ropes to give you best chance of hooking up with some of the monster fish here at Long Lake.

New Brunswick Moose Season Dates for 2016

The New Brunswick government officially announced 2 days ago that the 2016 New Brunswick Moose hunting season will once again be a 5 day hunt. Though no official announcement has been made the moose season dates in New Brunswick for 2016 will likely be September 18 through 24, 2016 as this is the last full week in September, Saturday inclusive. There was speculation the hunt might be shortened or possibly split into two 3- day seasons however for 2016 the government elected to maintain  the status quo after consultations with stakeholders.

DNR announces New Brunswick Moose Hunting Season Dates for 2015

The New Brunswick government announced today, May 1st  that the 2015 New Brunswick Moose hunting season dates will be from Tuesday September 22 through Saturday September 26. This ended speculation that the season might be returned to the old 3 day season which was the norm prior to 2014, however after analysis of data the government elected to continue with the 5 day season for 2015. Application dates for the New Brunswick RESIDENT Moose Draw will be May 19 through June 12. The Non-resident Moose draw entry dates ended yesterday, April 30 and the results will be available on May 19. We wish all of our friends both resident and non-resident best of luck in the draw and invite you to check out our Moose hunting page for more pics and information to guide you when choosing your outfitter for your New Brunswick Moose hunt.

New Brunswick Moose hunting recap September 2014

Yesterday the province of New Brunswick released numbers regarding the the 2014 Moose hunting season. As expected ,with the new 5 day season kill numbers were up province-wide (but not quite as much as biologists predicted). 2014 saw a total harvest of 3690 Moose which was a 10% increase over the 2013 season total. Projections had put the final 2014 kill at 3940 (which would have been about a 16% increase) due to the extra 2 days of hunting this year, however the last 2 days of moose season were unseasonably warm with temperatures topping 26 C (about 80 F) in some parts of New Brunswick which likely had a negative impact on hunting during those 2 days.

There were 4612 resident licences issued for 2014 along with 100 non-resident licences making the total 4712, with 3690 Moose taken for an overall success rate of 78%. The New Brunswick DNR estimates the moose population province wide to be about 30 000 animals.

Here at Long Lake Adventures we had a 100% success rate with our non-resident hunter Jimmy bagging a fine bull the first morning and we  also had 3 residents with licenses using our facilities as their base and each of them had Moose by Friday.

Final fishing recap-news from summer season at Long Lake Adventures.

Overall we had a great summer in 2014 of fishing here at Long Lake Adventures once again. Fishing continued to be very good through July and August with mostly warm, dry weather and favourable conditions for both fish and fisherman. Labour day weekend saw some unsettled weather and fishing was slow for a few days but picked back up with great action for our last few groups of fishermen in early September. Lake trout season closed on September 15 and we’re already looking forward to the 2015 season. We’d like to thank all of our fishing guests for their patronage and look forward to seeing you next summer- we’re already booking for 2015 so we suggest you contact us ASAP to make your booking and get the best choice of dates (weekends fill up fast!)

We also had several folks take advantage of our family vacation packages with great feedback as well as having a great time with the ATV groups that visited us this summer-we hope to see you all again next year and would like to express our appreciation for choosing Long Lake Adventures for your excursions! We’ll be adding a page dedicated to ATV trips to the website in the near future, so keep an eye out for that; right now the New Brunswick Moose season is in full swing so our attention for the next few days will be with that. Hunting news will be posted here as well on our facebook page.

Thanks again for a great summer!/Merci encore pour un bel été!

Clay and Tanya, and everyone at Long Lake Adventures

Longer New Brunswick Moose hunting season for 2014!

Yesterday May 8, 2014, the New Brunswick government announced that it appears very likely the 2014 New Brunswick Moose hunting season will be extended to five days from the current three. The extra two days will be tacked on in front of the current three days in the last week of September making it a Tuesday to Saturday hunt versus the current Thursday-Saturday hunt. These changes won’t officially come into effect until (some point after) June 5 as there will be a consultation period with stakeholders but it seems at this point this will be the season for 2014!
