The Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum 2015 info-Fishing With Friends update

Hi folks-we’ll start this post by saying thanks to all who came out to talk to us while attending the show in Halifax last weekend; as usual we had a great time ourselves speaking with folks from all over Nova Scotia and beyond. Our next (and finFB-General-Ad-Image-1200-x-627al show of the winter/ spring) will be the Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum 2015 which takes place annually in conjunction with the New Brunswick Sportsmen’s Show. The Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum has all kinds of gear for everyone-the focus is naturally on fly fishing but there’s lots of equipment on display to appeal to any angler. This event will be taking place March 27 to 29 at the Moncton Coliseum, 377 Killam Drive, Moncton New Brunswick. The first part of the video from Eastlink TV’s “Fishing With Friends” is now live on our Youtube channel! This video was shot last July (2014) when Steve Clapperton joined us at Long Lake Adventures for some Lake Trout fishing; featuring some trolling in deep water and casting we boated and released a few fine Lakers. Part 2 featuring fly fishing for Landlocked Salmon and Brook Trout will be online in a few days. These videos aired on TV recently on Eastlink’s own cable channel which covers southwestern New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia . We thank Eastlink and everyone associated with production for creating and sharing the videos with us to show “to everyone” interested in fishing at Long Lake Adventures!

New Brunswick Moose hunting recap September 2014

Yesterday the province of New Brunswick released numbers regarding the the 2014 Moose hunting season. As expected ,with the new 5 day season kill numbers were up province-wide (but not quite as much as biologists predicted). 2014 saw a total harvest of 3690 Moose which was a 10% increase over the 2013 season total. Projections had put the final 2014 kill at 3940 (which would have been about a 16% increase) due to the extra 2 days of hunting this year, however the last 2 days of moose season were unseasonably warm with temperatures topping 26 C (about 80 F) in some parts of New Brunswick which likely had a negative impact on hunting during those 2 days.

There were 4612 resident licences issued for 2014 along with 100 non-resident licences making the total 4712, with 3690 Moose taken for an overall success rate of 78%. The New Brunswick DNR estimates the moose population province wide to be about 30 000 animals.

Here at Long Lake Adventures we had a 100% success rate with our non-resident hunter Jimmy bagging a fine bull the first morning and we  also had 3 residents with licenses using our facilities as their base and each of them had Moose by Friday.
